Experience & Fishkeeping qualifications:
Jason has kept fish at home for over 30 years and has over 25 years experience in the aquatic trade. His qualifications are OATA certificates in fish biology, filtration, water quality & fish health.

At home he keeps:
A Small pond, an 80 litre energy effecient reef aquarium containing primarily SPS and LPS corals. A 110 litre custom built aquarium housing Seahorses, and other slow moving fish.

Favourite product:
TMC Aquabeam lighting, due to it low running costs and great results with SPS coral growth in his own aquarium.

Expert subjects:
Aquarium equipment & technology, species identification, marine fish & invertebrates, tropical freshwater fish, aquarium maintenance & installation, in fact most areas of the hobby!

Basic knowledge:
Koi, pond equipment & pond construction.

Other information:
Jason is on Practical Fishkeeping magazines panel of experts, he is responsible for installing and upgrading the shops filtration systems. He hand selects all our marine fish & corals and looks after The WaterZoo’s web site and accounts.

Jim
Jim

Fishkeeping qualifications:
Jim has a industry recognised National diploma in fishery & ornamental studies

At home he keeps:
640 litre reef aquarium, containing Clams, SPS and Soft Corals.

Expert subjects:
Over 10 years in the trade has given Jim a wealth of knowledge of planted aquariums, marine fish, corals & Anemones, starting out in the hobby, marine & freshwater equipment, water quality & live food culture.

Basic knowledge:
Pond plants, pond equipment, fish breeding & pond construction.

Favourite product:
Red Sea Reef Foundation Pro test kit, this a very accurate, but easy to use test kit with dropper, easy to follow instruction and supplied in a plastic case. It tests for Calcium, Magnesium and alkalinity, which are vital parameters to monitor for a successful reef aquarium

Other information:
Jim maintains the AquaGro planted aquarium in the dry goods area, he is also our longest serving member of staff.

Jamie

At home he keeps:
Reef aquarium for Hard corals and clams.

Expert subjects:
Corals, Reef Aquariums, HI Tech Planted aquariums, Tropical freshwater fish species, and aquarium technology.

Basic knowledge:
Fish breeding, nature ponds, koi ponds

Other information:
Jamie’s main interest’s are Corals, reef aquariums, and unusual fish species both freshwater and marine. Jamie manages the shop day to day. He is also responsible for selecting the fresh water livestock.

Ricky
Ricky

Fishkeeping qualifications:
OATA certificates in fish biology, filtration, water quality & fish health

At home he keeps:
240 litre Juwel marine fish only aquarium and garden pond. He also intends to set up a planted freshwater aquarium with shrimps.

Expert subjects:
Brackish water species, starting a marine aquarium, tropical fish, invertebrate, Discus, Corydoras catfish & maintaining an aquarium.

Basic knowledge:
Lake Malawi & Tanganyika Cichlids and Pond equipment.

Favourite product:
Red Sea NO3 PO4-X, this biological phosphate and nitrate reducer is definitely on of the best marine products around. Whether you just need to get rid of nuisance algae, or just keep nitrate levels down. Ricky personally uses this product (as do many of our staff), and was surprised at the results, his aquarium is now crystal clear and free of nuisance algae, with his coral looking better than ever.

Other information:
Ricky maintains the 90 litre nano reef marine aquarium in the dry goods area.

Richard has National Diploma in fishery management & aquatics

At home he keeps:
Nano planted aquarium and a 90 litre Mudskipper aquarium

Expert subjects:
Maintaining a healthy aquarium, planted aquariums and keeping community fish.

Basic knowledge:
Koi & marine inverts

Favourite product:
AquaGro Hobby CO2 system, because of its easy to operate regulator, and built in gauge. Ideal pressurissed CO2 system for the beginner that will really boost plant growth.

Other information:
Richard returned to The WaterZoo after spending several years being involved in the installation an maintenance of large commercial and retail aquariums. He spends much of his time in the dry goods area at the front of the shop.
