A refractometer is a simple and robust way of accurately measuring the salinity within your aquarium.
The refractometer works on the principle of refraction of light to determine the salinity and is very accurate, but also very simple and robust
Light enters the instrument at one end and passes through a sample of the aquarium water which causes it to be refracted, (bends the light), depending on the salinity of the water. The refracted light is reflected off a scale inside and can be viewed through an eyepiece on the opposite end of the instrument.
Display salt level in both specific gravity (S.G.) and grams per litre range from 1.015 - 1.030.

This refractometer specifically designed for aquarium use for measuring the salinity of Natural Sea Water.
Almost all hand held salt water refractometers available to the hobby are designed and calibrated for the testing of brine solutions, i.e. sodium chloride, and are not calibrated for the refractive index of natural sea water.
Even though the largest percentage of salt in the sea is sodium chloride, the presence of other significant ions such as magnesium and calcium in natural sea water results in a different refractive index relative to that of brine. A standard salt (brine) refractometer will therefore not give the correct salinity for natural sea water (NSW) and a conversion factor must be applied.

We aim to dispatch all orders the same working day provided it is received before 1pm and payment confirmed, subject to stock availability. Small and lightweight items (below 2kg) will normally be sent via Royal Mail 1st class, and will be delivered within 5 days, usually next day.
Larger orders with a total weight over 2kg will normally be sent via parcel carrier for delivery within 2 working days.
Any orders placed after 11am on Saturday will be dispatched on Monday. If the order is placed over a bank holiday it cannot be dispatched until the first working day.
