Common Boxfish (Rhynchostracion nasus)
AKA Short Nosed Boxfish
Suggested minimum aquarium size when adult:
Will eat frozen Mysis, Brineshrimp, Plankton, will take dried foods readily when settled. Frequent small feeding are suggested as Boxfish have an external skeleton it not possible to see if they are losing weight.
Not recommended, will sometimes ok for short periods, the soon start to pick at both hard and soft corals. Usually safe with Shrimp, Crabs and snails, provided they are not too small
Avoid keeping with aggressive or boisterous fish. Can be kept with its own kind if added all at the same time, although over time a dominant fish may develop and bully smaller individuals.
One of the easier to keep Boxfish. Like all Boxfish it can secrete a toxin when distressed, this is not usually a problem in the aquarium, unless very small. Can be an issue in transit, especially if packed with other fish.
