Juwel T5 lamps and light units now in stock.
T5’s are a new type of fluorescent lighting that really
puts others in the shade! Each tube has an output of at around double
that of a standard T8 fluorescent tube for aquarium use. Until now the only really successful way to light a reef aquarium was with expensive metal halides. These also needed an open top aquarium that could lead to problems with evaporation. Admittedly many fish keepers have had success using standard fluorescents, but so many had to be packed into the hood that overheating, and lack of space were real issues. We have already converted all our own marine sales aquariums to this new technology. We have found that two T5’s easily light aquariums to 18” in depth. For deeper aquariums, or species that require really high light requirements four would be better. Another advantage is the length of the units, they are
slightly shorter than current lamps. This means they just fit into most standard
size aquariums, once the end caps are in place. The only real disadvantage is that T5 tubes cannot be
used with current ballast units. You must have a T5 ballast unit. All units currently in stock are twins fitted with a 60/40 mix of daylight/actinic tubes & gull wing reflectors for maximum output. A wide range off T5 fluorescent lamps are available from stock in sizes up to 54 watt (limited range of 80w).
All units are fully CE approved and fitted with moisture proof end caps making it safe for use over water even without cover glasses. Unusually for aquarium equipment they are supplied with a generous eight feet of cable with in line switch.
Gull wing reflectors not
shown for clarity.
We also have the T5 overtank luminares from Arcadia in stock at competitive prices. |
