Ozone is similar to oxygen, except where oxygen (O2)
has two atoms ozone (O3) has three. This third atom is
desperate to join with another atom to become stable. Fortunately for fish
keepers this is normally pollutants in the aquarium. Ozone is a very
strong oxidation (cleaning) agent, but is environmentally friendly as it
made up of three oxygen atoms and therefore does not introduce anything
into the aquarium.
Ozone must be used carefully, an overdose could kill all
the bacteria in your filter, or in extreme cases directly damage your live
stock. It must NOT be introduced directly into the aquarium, it should be
introduced via a protein skimmer, or ozone reactor. When using Ozone for the first time the
level should be increased slowly and the aquarium monitored carefully to
ensure that their are no negative effects.

Sander Ozonizers
|
Installation
An Ozonizer is
easy to add to an existing system. If you have an air driven skimmer it
connect between your air pump and your skimmer. If you have a venturi or
needle wheel skimmer, extend the air suction and add the Ozonizer to the
end of the pipe. Ensure your skimmer is ozone safe as ozone can attack
some plastics.
Ozonizers
should be kept dry at all times for best performance they should not draw
in moist air. Air dryers are available to order.
Dosage
The exact
dosage will depend on the amount of organic matter & stocking level in
the aquarium as a guide start by using a very low level 0.1mg per 5 litres
and slowly increase, some aquarium can require up to 1.0 mg per 5 litres
of water.
